Maple Valley and King County Special Recycling Collection Events

Through grant funds from King County Solid Waste, Washington State Department of Ecology, and the Local Hazardous Waste Management Program of King County, Maple Valley and rural King County residents can recycle items typically not collected in their curbside program each spring and fall at residential collection events held at Rock Creek Elementary School - 25700 Maple Valley Highway.   Residential customers are mailed an event flyer two to three weeks prior to the residential events.

These grants also fund one business recycling collection event which is typically held on a weekday in July. Businesses are notified by direct mailing.

Hazardous Household Waste

Household hazardous waste can be taken to one of four collection sites in Auburn, Factoria, north Seattle, and south Seattle or to roving Wastemobile events throughout King County.  Check the King County Wastemobile schedule for dates and locations.

What to bring, what not to bring

The Wastemobile located at the Outlet Collection (formally Auburn Supermall) operates every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Click here  for details about collection at this site.

Washington residents can recycle television, computers, computer monitors, laptops and other electronic devices for free under Washington’s E-Cycle program. The program will divert toxic materials such as mercury, cadmium, and lead that are found in electronic devices from entering the waste stream. The program is available to households, small businesses, schools, small governments, special purpose districts, and charities. For E-Cycle locations call 1-800-RECYCLE or visit their website at

Ah Spring!  What a Great Time For A Neighborhood Litter Pick Up!

On Saturday, April 11th, 9 am to noon, community groups in Maple Valley will be sprucing up Lake Wilderness Park and picking up litter in preparation for the 12th Annual Hooked On Fishing Derby on April 25th.  Local adopt-a-road groups will also be scheduling their annual spring litter pick up in April.

Maple Valley City Council is encouraging Homeowner Associations (HOA) and residents to join in and help beautify Maple Valley on April 11th by picking up litter in their neighborhoods and community parks, too.  Recology CleanScapes, Maple Valley’s new solid waste service provider, will be out on April 11th picking up litter and they have provided litter bags for participating neighborhood litter pick up efforts.

Litter bags can be picked up at City Hall Monday –Friday 8 am to 5 pm beginning April 1st through
April 10th.  The bags are only for community litter; no personal litter and no organics please.  The HOA representative can call the City at 425-413-8800 and report the location where filled litter bags have been staged for pick up (by light pole or community park or address etc.) the following week.

Letters are going out to neighborhood HOA’s whose contact information is known, however, now is a great time for HOA’s to provide updated contact information to the City.  Please email Becky Munson to update your HOA information.  Maple Valley City Council thanks you for helping to keep Maple Valley beautiful!
