PROJECT UPDATE #33
Posted:  November 19, 2015

WEEKLY UPDATE:  The final paving, striping and landscaping has been completed.  The status of this project is substantially complete as of November 12th.  Physical completion will be granted after all remaining punch list items are addressed.

PROJECT UPDATE #32
Posted:  November 5, 2015

Witte Road SE:

UPDATE:  Final paving has been completed and Witte Road has been reopened.  No more full roadway closures associated with Witte Road Improvements are scheduled.  Remaining work includes roadway striping, additional landscaping and other minor punch-list items.  Motorists should expect periodic delays during striping, as the roadway will be limited to one lane.

PROJECT UPDATE #31
Posted:  November 2, 2015

UPDATE:  Final paving is scheduled to occur on Wednesday and Thursday this week.  Full road closure will take place on those days (Nov. 4th and 5th).  During the road closure, access to Wilderness Village will be from SR 169 and from SE 240th Street.

PROJECT UPDATE #30
Posted:  October 30, 2015

WEEKLY UPDATE:   The final paving with the street overlay and striping is expected to be completed this week.  This will require a two day road closure which is weather dependent.   Expect long delays during this time. Planting of street trees and shrubs adjacent to the sidewalk will continue through the following week.  During this road closure, there will be continued access to Wilderness Village from SR 169 and from SE 240th Street.

Project completion is anticipated in early November.

PROJECT UPDATE #29
Posted:  October 26, 2015

(for the week of October 31st)
WEEKLY UPDATE:  Construction crews have completed the widening on the west side of the roadway.  The guard rail has been installed and median islands that will be landscaped have been constructed.  For road closures this week, expect long delays.  During road closure, there will be access to Wilderness Village from SR 169 and from SE 240th Street.

Project completion is anticipated in early November.

PROJECT UPDATE #28
Posted:  October 19, 2015

(for the week of October 24th)
WEEKLY UPDATE:  Construction crews have completed the widening on the west side of the roadway.  Crews are scheduled to work on the installation of the center landscaped island between October 19th and 23rd.  Weather dependent, paving is scheduled for the week of October 26th.  Expect long delays.

Project completion is anticipated in early November.

WEEKLY UPDATE:
  Construction activities along the west side of Witte Road SE for this week will include removing pavement and preparation for installing curb along the west side for the length of the project.  Construction of the two median islands will begin, which will require additional traffic control from Wilderness Village to SE 240th.  Guardrail installation along the west side of the road will also begin later in the week.  The first phase of paving is expected to begin next week.

Project completion is now anticipated in early November.

(for the week of October 10th)
WEEKLY UPDATE:
  Construction activities along the west side of Witte Road SE for this week will include installing geogrid fabric for the deeper sections of the Soldier Pile wall, followed by backfill of the soldier pile wall along the west side.  The storm drainage system installed along west side the street has been completed.  Preparations for traffic control revisions during the construction of two median islands beginning the following week have been made.  Installation of guard rail is also scheduled to begin next week.

The new sidewalk provides a safe pedestrian route along the east side of this stretch of Witte Road SE and the new LED streetlights are functioning.  Project completion is now anticipated to be in early November.

WEEKLY UPDATE:
  Construction activities along the west side of Witte Road SE for this week will include completion of the Soldier Pile wall drainage and installing geogrid fabric, followed by backfill of the soldier pile wall along the west side.  The storm drainage system is also being installed along west side the street. All utility and storm crossings for the project have been completed.

The new sidewalk provides a safe pedestrian route along the east side of this stretch of Witte Road SE.  The new LED streetlights are functioning.


 

PROJECT UPDATE #24

WEEKLY UPDATE:
  Construction along the west side of Witte Road SE is continuing. The Gravity Block wall has been completed along the west side and drilling and installation of piles followed by lagging for the Soldier Pile wall is underway.  Storm drainage is also being installed starting across the street from the Village Inn continuing along the west side.  Meanwhile, all utility and storm crossings for the project have been completed.

The new sidewalk provides a safe pedestrian route along the east side of this stretch of Witte Road SE.  The new LED streetlights are functioning at night.

WEEKLY UPDATE:
  Construction continues along the west side of Witte Road SE.  The construction of the Gravity Block wall is continuing and drilling and installation of piles for the Soldier Pile wall is underway along the west side.  Storm drainage is also being installed along the west side near SE 240th and will progress northward.  All utility and storm crossings for the project have been completed.

The new sidewalk provides a safe pedestrian route along the east side of this stretch of Witte Road SE.  The new LED streetlights are now functioning at night.  The lane transition zone for traffic approaching SR 169 has been extended another 150 feet to provide a more gradual transition.

WEEKLY UPDATE:
  Construction has moved to the west side.  Erosion control protection is in place along the west side and downslope toward the Lake Wilderness trail.  Preparation followed by construction of retaining walls is beginning along the west side.  All utility and storm crossings have been completed.

The new sidewalk has been completed for a safer pedestrian route along the east side of this stretch of Witte Road SE.  The new LED streetlights are now functioning at night.  The lane transition zone for traffic approaching SR 169 will be extended another 150 feet to provide a more gradual transition later in the week.

WEEKLY UPDATE:
 The travel lanes have been shifted toward the east side and will remain so for the next month.  Construction has moved to the west side.  Erosion control protection has been installed along the west side and downslope toward the Lake Wilderness trail prior to any construction of retaining walls along the west side begins.  All of the utility and storm crossings have been completed and the storm outfall near the Lake Wilderness trail will be finished this week.

The new sidewalk has been completed for a safer pedestrian route along the east side of this stretch of Witte Road SE.  The new LED streetlights are also functioning at night.


 

PROJECT UPDATE #20

WEEKLY UPDATE:
 The travel lanes were shifted toward the east side in the past week, as work has moved to the west side after the sidewalk and paving along the curbline were completed along the east side of Witte Road SE.  Erosion control protection has been installed along the west side and downslope toward the Lake Wilderness trail prior to any construction of retaining walls along the west side begins. 

All utility undergrounding has been completed except for the digging of the last joint utility trench crossing across Witte Road SE near SR 169.  This work and the nearby storm crossing will be completed Wednesday and Thursday nights, which will require a road closure from 9PM – 4AM on those nights only.   

A safe pedestrian route will be maintained at all times along the east side.


PROJECT UPDATE #19

(for the week of August 22nd)
WEEKLY UPDATE:  During the past week, the eleven new Streetlight poles and fixtures with LED lights were installed by INTOLIGHT and are in operation.  Meanwhile, Sanders General Construction completed the abandonment in place of the storm piping no longer in use and paving of  driveway connections and along the curbline was also completed along the east side of Witte Road SE – Phase 3, from SR 169 to SE 240th Street.  All utility undergrounding has been completed except for the digging of the last joint utility trench crossing across Witte Road SE near SR 169.  The conduit in this trench will not need to be energized.  Erosion control will be installed along the west side downslope toward the Lake Wilderness trail and in place before any construction of retaining walls along the west side begins.  Cedar River Water District will be removing and replacing a short length of water main and patching the roadway in preparation for other work along the west side scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.  This activity is expected to cause traffic delays.

A safe pedestrian route will be maintained at all times.  Traffic control will be shifted toward the east side for the entire length of the project beginning this week and will continue to allow for safe travel.


PROJECT UPDATE #18

WEEKLY UPDATE:  Over the past week, Sanders General Construction completed installation of the new sidewalk and the remaining driveway entrance and the water meters have been reinstalled by Cedar River Water/Sewer District.  Topsoil to the landscape areas has been applied along the east side of Witte Road SE – Phase 3, from SR 169 to SE 240th Street.  The activities for this week expected to be completed include the plugging and abandonment in place of the storm along the east side and the installation of the streetlight poles and fixtures.  All utility undergrounding has been completed except for the digging of the last joint utility trench crossing across Witte Road SE near SR 169.  The conduit in this trench will not need to be energized.  

A safe pedestrian route will be maintained at all times.  Traffic control will allow for safe travel in both directions.

WEEKLY UPDATE:  Sanders General Construction has completed the grading, adjustment of structures and setting forms for sidewalks and planter strip areas last week along the east side of Witte Road SE – Phase 3, from SR 169 to SE 240th Street.  Placement of sidewalk, roadway patching mainly along the curbline, addition of topsoil to landscape areas and electrical connections for streetlight poles (to be installed the following week) are scheduled for this week.  The undergrounding of utilities has been completed except for the digging of the last joint utility trench crossing across Witte Road SE near SR 169.  The conduit in this trench will not need to be energized.  

A safe pedestrian route will be maintained at all times.  Traffic control will allow for safe travel in both directions.

WEEKLY UPDATE:  After the curb and gutter was poured, Sanders General Construction has installed two driveways and most of the ADA curb ramps along the east side of Witte Road SE – Phase 3, from SR 169 to SE 240th Street over the last week.  Placement of the remaining driveway entrances and ADA curb ramps and preparation for completion of the sidewalk along the east side is scheduled for this week.  The preparation will include the adjustment of vaults and structures in the sidewalk and planter strip areas.  The undergrounding of utilities is complete except for the digging of the last joint utility trench crossing across Witte Road SE near SR 169, which will not need to be energized.  

A safe pedestrian route is to be maintained at all times.  Traffic control will allow for safe travel in both directions.

WEEKLY UPDATE:
 The installation of new curb, gutter, storm structures and associated piping on the east side has been completed.  The installation of storm on the west side will begin early next month for the Witte Road SE – Phase 3 Improvements, from SR 169 to SE 240th Street.  The undergrounding of utilities is complete except for the digging of the last joint utility trench crossing across Witte Road SE near SR 169, which will not need to be energized. All of the new underground utility system is energized and in operation.  The contractor is scheduled to install new curb ramps and driveways followed by sidewalk by the end of this week.  

A safe pedestrian route is to be maintained at all times.  Traffic control will allow for safe travel in both directions.

WEEKLY UPDATE:  The installation of new storm structures and associated piping on the east has been completed and installation of storm west side will begin early next month on the Witte Road SE – Phase 3 Improvements, from SR 169 to SE 240th Street.  The undergrounding of utilities is complete except for the digging of the last joint utility trench crossing across Witte Road SE near SR 169, which will not need to be energized. All of the new underground utility system has been energized.  The contractor is scheduled to install new curb and gutter by the end of next week.  

A safe pedestrian route is to be maintained at all times.  Traffic control will allow for safe travel in both directions.

WEEKLY UPDATE:  Construction continues with the installation of new storm structures and associated piping for the Witte Road SE – Phase 3 Improvements, from SR 169 to SE 240th Street.  Two water quality treatment units were installed last week.  The digging of the last joint utility trench crossing and installation will occur this week.  Meanwhile, PSE, Comcast and Century Link are continuing to pull wire through the new conduits into the vaults over the next few weeks, in preparation for the new underground system to be energized. Portions of the new underground system have already been energized.  Removal of existing curb and gutter and asphalt are continuing in preparation for the pouring of new curb and gutter.

A safe pedestrian route is to be maintained at all times.  Traffic control will allow for safe travel in both directions.   A new permanent sign has replaced a portable messaging sign. Two other portable messaging signs remain south of the project.

 Construction continues with the installation of new storm structures and piping for the Witte Road SE – Phase 3 Improvements, from SR 169 to SE 240th Street.  The digging of the last joint utility trench crossing and installation will occur later this week, with the possibility of evening closure for this activity during a time of less traffic.  Meanwhile, PSE, Comcast and Century Link are continuing to pull wire through the new conduits and into the vaults, in preparation for the new underground system to be energized. Existing curb and gutter and asphalt are being removed where the new storm drainage system is to be installed.  

A safe pedestrian route will be maintained at all times.  Traffic control will allow for safe travel in both directions.   A new permanent sign will be in place on SR 169, north of the project to replace the previous portable messaging sign.

Existing curb and gutter and asphalt are being removed where the new storm drainage system is to be installed.  

A safe pedestrian route will be maintained at all times.  Traffic control will allow for safe travel in both directions.   A new permanent sign will be in place on SR 169, north of the project to replace the previous portable messaging sign.

WEEKLY UPDATE:  Construction of the Witte Road SE – Phase 3 Improvements, from SR 169 to SE 240th Street is finishing up the installation of a joint utility trench and new utility vaults with crossings at four locations that will be finished up by the following week, beginning at the between SE 240th and SE 237th, moving northward.  The joint utility trench is the first phase of the conversion of overhead power and communication to underground.  After the conduit and vaults are installed, each utility will be pulling wire through conduits, beginning the following week to prepare the new underground system for energizing.

A safe pedestrian route will be maintained at all times.  Traffic control will allow for traffic passage in both directions (see Traffic Alert).  Street trees and low level shrubs will be installed in the new medians and planter strip adjacent to the new sidewalk to be constructed later this summer and early fall.  Please note the Portable messaging signs in advance of the project on Witte Rd SE and along SR 169 both north and south of Witte Road SE.

WEEKLY UPDATE:  Construction of the Witte Road SE – Phase 3 Improvements, from SR 169 to SE 240th Street is continuing with the installation of a joint utility trench with new utility vaults along the east side of Witte Road SE, that is now north of SE 237th.  This trench is part of the underground conversion of power and communication to underground and is anticipated to be completed by the first week of June.  Once the conduit and vaults are installed, then each utility will be pulling wire through conduits to prepare the new underground system for energizing.

A safe pedestrian route will be maintained at all times.  Traffic control will allow traffic passage as much as possible as the utility trench progresses toward the intersection of SR 169 (see also Traffic Alert).  Street trees and low level shrubs will be installed in the planter strip adjacent to the new sidewalk that will be constructed later this summer and early fall.  Please note the Portable messaging signs in advance of the project on Witte Rd SE and along SR 169 both north and south of Witte Road SE.

WEEKLY UPDATE:  Witte Road SE – Phase 3 Improvements, from SR 169 to SE 240th Street is well underway with the installation of a  joint utility trench with new utility vaults continuing along the east side of Witte Road SE, that is now north of SE 237th.  This trench is part of the underground conversion of power and communication to underground is about 2/3 complete as of May 15th and is scheduled to be completed in the first week of June.  

A safe pedestrian route will be maintained at all times.  Traffic control will change this week as the utility trench progresses toward the intersection of SR 169 (see Traffic Alert).  Street trees and low level shrubs will be installed in the planter strip adjacent to the new sidewalk that will be constructed later this summer and early fall.  Portable messaging signs in advance of the project on Witte Rd SE and along SR 169 both north and south of Witte Road SE are in place and will remain through the duration of the project.   You can expect periodic delays on Witte Road during construction hours weekdays.  SE 240th Street can be used as an alternate route.

WEEKLY UPDATE:  Construction of Witte Road SE – Phase 3 Improvements, from SR 169 to SE 240th Street are underway and traffic control cones are in place. A joint utility trench is being dug along the east side of Witte Road SE and new utility vaults are being installed as part of the underground conversion of power and communication to underground. Vegetation is also being removed along the east side of Witte Road and demolition of sidewalk has started at the south end of the project. A safe pedestrian route will be maintained at all times and erosion control is currently in place. Later in the summer, there will be street trees and low level shrubs installed in the planter strip adjacent to the new sidewalk. Portable messaging signs in advance of the project on Witte Rd SE and along SR 169 both north and south of Witte Road SE will remain in place until completion of the project in October.

WEEKLY UPDATE:  Construction of Witte Road SE – Phase 3 Improvements, from SR 169 to SE 240th Street has started and traffic control cones are in place.  The first phase of construction consists of a joint utility trench being dug as part of the underground conversion of power and communication to underground.  The existing utility poles will eventually be removed later in the summer before project completion.  Vegetation removal along the east side of Witte Road and demolition of sidewalk will begin this week with a safe pedestrian route to be maintained at all times throughout the project.  Erosion control is now in place.  Please note the portable messaging signs in advance of the project on Witte Rd SE and along SR 169 both north and south of Witte Road SE.
