Serving my fourth term on the Maple Valley City Council I am continually honored and grateful for your support and confidence in me. I take pride in working with my fellow Councilors and City staff to ensure Maple Valley has plans in place to improve our overburdened roads, continues to be financially sound, provides recreational opportunities, and is positioned to support economic growth and development.
These economic times have presented the Council with very real challenges. The City Council is working hard to bring living wage jobs to Maple Valley and is focusing on training and technology jobs. As such we are supporting the Tahoma School District’s plans which will include education beyond the usual high school curriculum. The City Council is supportive of these endeavors and is working to help facilitate this vision. The new high school currently under construction within the city limits will be a welcome addition.
The community has told us in many ways that transportation and sports fields are high on your list of priorities. The $20 fee added to your vehicle license will continue to assure annual overlay projects are not neglected and our streets are maintained. The sports field issue is more difficult. We have plans for the Summit Ball Fields off 276th in the south end of the city adjacent to the new High School. With an estimated cost over $10 million dollars this will require a levy vote of the citizens, which is currently scheduled for April 2016. There are many challenges ahead of us and I look forward to working with my fellow Council members to provide oversight, vision, and policy-setting guidance for Maple Valley.
